They Can't All Be Winners I Guess...

I was really looking forward to my first craft fair of the year. Not only was the weather supposed to be beautiful, but the show was local. So local that I only had to drive 2.5 miles to get there.

Unfortunately, the show was not really all I had anticipated. The organizers (which was a local church) did not do an adequate job advertising this event; even with the great deal of time they had to promote it. The set up although good, could have been improved as well. All of these things left a really bad taste in the mouths of the vendors. I over heard a few vendors co-miserating and they felt that the church had made their money on the $40 spots so they didn't really care if there was foot traffic to the event. That is not the impression you want your vendors to be left with; especially if you want them to come back.

So, here are a few things that could have been done better:

1) Advertise on all local free websites, bulletin boards etc.

2) Have group or organization members spread the word.

3) Send your vendors a flyer via email that they can print or email to their mailing list.

4) Have signs around the vicinity of the event, especially on well traveled roads.

5) Have food vendors set up past the arts/crafts vendors. Patrons will always follow the smell of good food.

6) Have all kid themed exhibits and games set up past the vendors. All patrons with children will have to walk through to get to activities.

If you have any tips to add please feel free to leave a comment...
